Channel 4 To Air New Black Reality Series ‘Highlife’

Channel 4 has commissioned a new series as part of their Black to Front initiative to improve on and off-screen representation.

The new series titled Highlife is a four part “black British premium reality series” which will showcase new black stories.

CR8TIVE ROW and Optomen will produce the new format which will centre around young British Nigerians on their paths to success.

The series will therefore be overseen by Daps, Luti Fagbenle, Tina Flintoff and Nick Hornby.

The press release reads, “Highlife follows the lives and loves of a group of ambitious, glamourous young Nigerian Brits all chasing their own idea of success.”

“Showcasing a community where high family expectations often impact career choices, relationships and even friendship groups the series is an aspirational and authentic portrayal of British life through a totally distinct but utterly relatable lens.”

On the series, Daps said, “There remains a lack of representation on British television. There are systemic issues that have disabled, or not enabled, certain groups to get key opportunities within the industry. This reality-doc series combats both these issues celebrating a group of young successful Black Brits and highlights issues this demographic face in an accessible way.”

Other Black to Front initiatives include a special edition episode of The Big Breakfast hosted by Mo Gilligan, a special all-black episode of Hollyoaks and the same for Celebrity Gogglebox, Countdown and Channel 4 News.
