Daniel Kaluuya, John Boyega & Chadwick Boseman Among 2021 Golden Globe Winners
Last night, the 2021 Golden Globe Awards ceremony took place to recognise excellence in TV and film and a number of popular names won big.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the ceremony took place virtually and saw many winners accept their awards from the comfort of their own homes.
Representing for the UK last night was Daniel Kaluuya who beat the likes of Sacha Baron Cohen, Bill Murray, Jared Lito and Leslie Odom Jr. to scoop up the award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Judas & The Black Messiah.
In the film, Kaluuya plays American activist and Black Panther member Fred Hampton who was assassinated at 21 in 1969.
“I hope generations after this can see how brilliantly he fought, he spoke, and he loved,” Kaluuya said during his acceptance speech.
“He taught me about myself, made me grow as a man, and I appreciate that with all my heart.”
Kaluuya also revealed C Biz’s 2016 track “The Game’s Mine” was a track he had on rotation during filming.
Another Londoner to win at this year’s Golden Globes is John Boyega, who won Best Supporting Actor In A Television Series for his role in the powerful Small Axe series.
“I’m so shocked. I’ve got trackie bottoms on and I’m comfortable but this is exciting,” Boyega said as he accepted the award from home.
The late, great Chadwick Boseman, who tragically passed away from colon cancer last August, was posthumously awarded Best Actor In A Motion Picture (Drama) for his role in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
The Black Panther star’s wife Taylor Simone Ledward accepted the award on his behalf.
