Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have named the royal baby Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made the announcement on their Instagram account on Wednesday alongside an adorable photo of the newborn with his grandparents the Queen, Prince Philip and Meghan’s mum Doria.
The caption read: ‘The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. ‘This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.’
Archie will not be a prince, yet, and as the first born son of a duke, he could have become an Earl, or even a Lord, but instead he will be Master Archie Mountbatten-Windsor.
His last name, Mountbatten-Windsor, is a combination of the names of both the Queen and her husband. This comes just hours after the new parents gave a glimpse of their two day old son after his first ever photo shoot. His cousin Prince George’s nickname is actually Archie, according to The Sun. And Harrison, simply means son of Harry. He was born on May 6 at 5.26am, weighing 7lb 3oz. Archie was seen with his parents in his very first photocall at Windsor Castle this afternoon. Meghan and Harry were beside themselves with joy, giggling and looking into each others eyes as they spoke to a small group of selected reporters and photographers. The Duke gently cradled his son in his arms and could not resist sneaking a peek down at him as he apparently slept.
Meghan put her hand on the small of Harry’s back as she listened to him talk. Before they entered the hall, Harry had a secret message of support for his wife before they were greeted by cameras. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex said their baby has the ‘sweetest temperament’ as they gushed over him. Introducing him to the cameras earlier in the day, Meghan said: ‘He has the sweetest temperament, he’s really calm. He’s been the dream.’ Harry joked: ‘I don’t know who he gets that from.’
