Police Officer arrested on suspicion of murder over disappearance of Sarah Everard
A police officer has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the disappearance of 33-year-old Sarah Everard.
Last Wednesday (March 3), Ms Everard disappeared while walking home from a friend’s house in Clapham, south London.
The last known sighting of her in Clapham was captured on a doorbell camera which showed her walking alone along the A205 Poynders Road from the junction at Cavendish Road, toward Tulse Hill at around 9:30pm on Wednesday.
She had not made contact with anyone since then.
A man in his 40s – who is a serving Metropolitan Police officer – was arrested in Kent last night on suspicion of kidnap, but has now been further arrested on suspicion of murder and a separate allegation of indecent exposure.
The Met confirmed the police officer, who was not on duty at the time of Ms Everard’s disappearance, worked for the force’s parliamentary and diplomatic protection command.
“His primary role was uniformed patrol duties of diplomatic premises,” the Met Police said.
They added that a woman in her 30s, who was arrested at the same property as the officer in Kent, is still being held on suspicion of assisting an offender.
