The Deplorable state of Ariaria market draws concern
Residents of the Ariaria International Market in Aba, Abia state have decried the deplorable state of the market.
The Ariaria International Market is an open-air market located in Aba, a city in Abia State Southeast Nigeria. The market is one of the largest markets in West Africa and nicknamed “China of Africa” because of its versatility in the making of wears and leather works.
Despite its prominence and importance, it is shocking that the government has left the market to suffer such a deplorable state.
Rainfall in Aba forced traders to set up a stilt to protect their goods from the water after the Ariaria market became flooded.
According to residents, the rainfall wasn’t heavy, yet the market was immediately flooded and they worried about what would happen when there’s constant rainfall.
Photos of the market after the rainfall has left many worried on social media, as people revealed they had to buy rain boots to navigate the market.
